Children's feet grow rapidly — typically a whole size every six months between ages 2 and 8 — and they're still developing structurally until the late teens. The wrong shoes can cause long-term problems: blisters, ingrown nails, gait issues, and impaired arch development. Free in-store measuring is one of the most important services we offer. Every Cordners store has Start-Rite and Clarks trained fitting staff who measure children's feet at the heel, ball, toes and arch. We strongly recommend measuring every 8-10 weeks during active growth phases — particularly during school holidays when children are typically barefoot more and feet can spread.

For school shoes, Start-Rite, Clarks and Geox lead the range — these brands meet typical school uniform standards and are engineered to survive a full school year of playground wear. For party shoes and occasions, Lelli Kelly's hand-embellished styles are a customer favourite. For weekend trainers and casual wear, Geox, Pablosky, Crocs, Vans and Gola cover everything from outdoor play to indoor activities.

Special needs accommodation: for children with wider feet, look at Start-Rite's F, G and H fittings. For sensory or dressing sensitivities, the Geox single-Velcro slip-ons and Clarks elasticated styles are easier to manage independently.
